Goals

We had a CIEE meeting on Friday as a small recap of our time here so far. Our program director asked us how classes are going and if we had any questions about upcoming events. She also asked us to fill out a quick questionnaire asking our goals, expectations, and things we want to learn. That day my goals sounded pretty lame - I wrote stuff like "get to know Istanbul" and "learn the language." I did have one goal that I really want to accomplish: I want to be able to order food that I crave, not just food I know how to say. After this morning though, I have new goals.

Plan for today: wake up, shower, laundry, homework, adventure. I'm stuck on laundry. Picture this: a medium sized room with 3 walls lined by 4 foot high machines. The room is dark because I can't find the light switch. Most of the machines have instructions in Turkish. So I cross the hall back to my room and get my 6 lira pocket dictionary to try and figure it out. After about 20 mins I've decided what settings I need (kind of), put my clothes in and go back to do some homework. I've been told the machine takes approx. 30 mins. It's not done after 30 mins. After 45 it stops, I open the door and much to my surprise - my clothes are completely dry! Then I realize one of the walls has Maytag washing machines...

So I'm starting again. And the machine is sounding like a dying cow...I may have to spend tomorrow at the mall...

Bursa Turkye!
